The new Honda Civic Hybrid, the electrified version of America's favourite compact car, has been awarded the esteemed 2025 North American Car of the Year title.
This marks a record-breaking fourth victory for the Honda Civic, which has received more NACOY accolades than any other nameplate in the award's over 30-year history.
The victory additionally signifies the second accolade for the 11th-generation Civic and the seventh occasion a Honda vehicle has been awarded the North American Car or Truck of the Year title – with the Honda Civic winning in 2006, 2016, 2022, and 2025, the Honda Ridgeline in 2006 and 2017, and the Honda Accord in 2018.
"We are honoured to have leading automotive journalists select the Honda Civic hybrid as the North American Car of the Year," said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales. "Our fun-to-drive hybrid-electric models are a key part of our Honda electrification strategy, and sales of the new Civic hybrid will ultimately represent about 40% of Civic sales."
The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year awards celebrate outstanding achievements in innovation, design, safety features, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, and value.
Established in 1994, these awards are determined by a panel of 50 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, representing independent magazines, television, radio, newspapers, and industry websites.
2025 Honda Civic Hybrid
Positioned at the forefront of the revamped 2025 Honda Civic lineup, the new Civic hybrid, available for the first time as either a sedan or hatchback, merges the fun-to-drive essence of the Civic with Honda's acclaimed two-motor hybrid-electric system.
